The girl in the shadow box over the grave of Herman Luyties (1871-1921). Luyties became infatuated with a young model who declined his marriage proposal. Unable to get over this rejection, he commissioned an Italian sculptor to create a large marble statue of his almost love. He kept this statue in his home before having it encased behind glass at his future burial site.
