History:
The Eternal Silence statue is one of the most iconic and mysterious monuments located in Graceland Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois.
 
Erected in 1929, this striking marble figure stands at the grave of Dexter Graves, a prominent Chicago businessman and philanthropist. The statue, created by sculptor Lorado Taft, depicts a somber figure draped in flowing robes, with its face completely obscured by a hood. Its blank, veiled visage exudes mystery and evokes a deep sense of unease as it stares down into the face of anyone before it.
 
The Eternal Silence statue also has a notable place in popular culture. It was featured on the cover of the box of the Ouija board from the 1940s until the 1960s.
